Exploring the BC Backcountry on Honda Dual Sports (with @crosstrainingenduro!)
One of the coolest things about attending the Big Rock Candy Mountain dirt bike riding event in Canada was getting to meet and ride with one of my idols: Barry Morris of the spectacular @crosstrainingenduro channel. I arrived at camp a day early and had the opportunity to explore some of the local wilderness on Honda dual sports (CRF300L and CRF450RL) with Bari, his brother Jeff, and @TractioneRag filmographer Nick.
This was a chill evening ride on some local forest roads but we still managed to come across a trio of bears, ride some fun forest roads, do a few water crossings, and even discover a recently decommissioned road that has apparently been turned into singletrack?
This was a gre...

In WAY Over My Head on Dirt Bikes in British Columbia: 5 Days on Dirt Bikes in Canada TRAILER
Просмотров 7 тыс.9 часов назад
I just got back from 5 days of dirt bike riding in British Columbia with the @TractioneRag gang at their Big Rock Candy Mountain event. This week was a true test of my endurance and skill as we tackled the toughest and most beautiful singletrack I've ever seen as well as some desert terrain, multiple gnarly hill climbs, and a full day crushing miles on dual sports. @spitescorner and I were push...

I took my 2024 KTM 790 Adventure in for its 620 mile service and was more than a little surprised at the cost. My goal with this bike and this review is to share the good, the bad, and the ugly of owning a KTM 790 Adventure and that includes ownership costs, so in this video I'll walk you through what they do at the KTM 790 Adventure first service (I got an itemized receipt) and the total cost ...
Dorking Around at the 2024 BMW MOA Rally in Redmond, Oregon

The annual BMW MOA Rally was held just two hours from my house this year, so you know I had to hop on my KTM to ride over and check it out. I somehow convinced them to let me in even though I have never owned a BMW motorcycle. Once inside, I discovered a super fun event filled with a ton of cool vendors and even cooler people. I had a great time goofing around with the gang from REV'IT, Alpines...

I was so stoked to get the opportunity to show @spitescorner around one of the most beautiful places in my home state. Oregon BDR section 5 is one of my favorites because it has gorgeous scenery and challenging riding. Jake was in town for the BMW MOA Rally and had a rented 1200 GS to ride, so we (along with John and Grant from Flying Eyes) set out to tackle the ORBDR from Sisters to Big Lake w...

I wanted to take my KTM 790 Adventure out on some fun forest roads with gorgeous scenery. The rest of the group wanted to ride something more difficult on their dual sport motorcycles. I lost that particular competition. So, we headed out to the local OHV area to tackle some sand, whoops, and embedded rocks on my brand new 2024 KTM 790 Adventure. Yamaha TW200 On and Off Road Test Ride: The Most Charming Dual Sport Motorcycle Ever
Просмотров 57 тыс.21 день назад
On paper, the Yamaha TW200 doesn't really make sense. It's an outdated, decades-old design, it's underpowered, and it lacks pretty much anything even resembling a modern motorcycle feature like ABS, traction control, or even a digital display. And yet...there's a reason this modern classic dual sport motorcycle keeps hanging on. I had a blast test riding the Yamaha TW200 off road and on the pav...

My first bike was this exact model TW. Bought just this past spring to learn how to ride. This summer I decided it was time to get a bigger bike for longer trips so I bought a Transalp 750. After riding nothing but my Transalp for weeks I got back on my TW. I was just like you, giggling like an idiot the entire ride lol. It’s such a fun little bike. Also I get compliments on my bike every time I take it out. Ppl think it’s an old bike just in great condition. I’m always like, nope it’s a 2024. It’s my forever bike for sure.

First service should be free all except oil and oil filter. Its a chance for the dealer and maker to amend their mistakes or prevent big money losses, claims and accidents… but, no, is not this way. For them its simply another opportunity to empty your pockets.

Bought my 2005 DR about 4 years ago. First bike. Thought I'd have it for a bit, sell, and "upgrade to a nicer bike". I have 0 reason to upgrade. Took it off road a bit, prefer street riding, got more street forward tires and works great as a street bike. It's very enjoyable to ride in the city, on short freeway bursts, backroads, gravel, etc. Any time I doubted the bike, it showed me that it was way more capable than I gave it credit for. Literally every issue the bike has had (which hasnt been much) was because i didnt know how to work with a carb, now i have 0 issues after learning. Love this bike.

Great review, great bike, as long as speed isn't in your Top 5 list. For $800 bucks more I can get a DR650, but then I don't get the 70+ MPG and I'm picking up 30lbs extra weight, so... if my speed is under 65mph then I might choose this bike. Great review.

Top 5 likes: 1) muffler is tucked under. 2) 21L tank, yet only 430 lbs when empty. 3) runs on regular fuel 4) decent space under seat 5) no traction control to disable offroad (2015).

  • @RouteNRide

What? Misdirected hate... 1) buffetting?: dunno, I live in 2010+ so 1st thing was to get an adjustable windshield like madstad. 2) seat slanting?: I've heard it, never felt it. 3) mirrors not wide enough?: Never had any issue. Maybe you are too wide, elbows too high. 4) top heavy?: I've tried a lots worse. Too heavy for rear stand? you are doing it wrong. Mine gets up full tank and luggages with one arm, and I'm not training. Chain maintenance, you need to learn about lifting on the side stand, especially during trips. 5) throwing the leg over: You are doing it wrong. Even with a 10" high tail bag attached I can get over. I think you are not bending the knee or passing way way far behind in the higher part, but mostly that you have no flexibility. 33" is low. Worst case, pull the calf up with the hand or step on the peg.

A year late, but... I chose a Suzuki V-Strom as my first Bike in General, not for what is designed to pretend to be, or what it can actually do, But because it was $7000NZ, and it Fit Me! The Moped I brought as a test to find out if what I was seeing while sitting in a car stuck in traffic going nowhere was an option for me (that was Motorcycles filtering and disappearing off into the distance while I'm sitting there with the handbrake on & getting bored) I saw GSX250's, a heap of L plates and realised that people were buying them to combat what was holding me back. So I got a scooter & tried it myself! and while I was commuting on a scooter, I sat on some bikes, discovered some of them are built for people who aren't cursed long limbs, and found that the most sensible bike for getting around town, going further distances, meeting the learner license requirements, and being physically comfortable to ride, while also being a reasonable price was a baby adventure bike called the V-Strom 250SX. There were options that cost more but wouldn't be as good around town. There were options that were much cheaper but uncomfortably too small and difficult to ride because they didn't give enough room for my legs. But now that I have spent the $7K, and it has potential to go places, the question is what footpegs do I want to replace the stock ones with?, which of the two top Boxes that I like should I get? (probably the slightly wider one with more reflective inserts) And looking at the factory fitted tyres, are they what I need when I do take it off the hard stuff. But ADV's for doing stuff that is the domain of the dual sport? If they have more Dollars than Sense they can go play in some exclusive club, and leave REAL people the hell alone. Adventure bike is named "Adventure" bike because it can do just that, a Dual "Sport" is a toy for doing the more extreme trails and tom foolery... as well as being street legal so you can get there without having to get the tow vehicle unstuck afterwards! I don't see why people have to try to combine the two or confuse them with each other, they have different purposes!

You're returning for one of the adv-type-training-events at the end of Aug too? I wonder if starting each day with skills training will be more or less tiring than starting with trail riding? Or perhaps the training week will intentionally be easier terrain for afternoon rides because of so many people coming from pavement? Can't wait to see!

Everyone is running at 80+mph and you just have to "stay with it, man!" No trouble if you keep your mind right and your eyes open. WOT won't hurt that engine if you back off a little to pull up some oil to wash the cylinder wall and then lay back into it. Fast break-in, just check the valve lash. Maybe that smell was from your tank bag strap melting? (I'm with you on that one) Thanks for sharing and maybe we'll see each other "on the road" Keep up the good work and ride safe, J. 🤠

I keep seeing different body positions suggested while standing. One place I went to was constantly reminding us to "stick your butts out": so our calves stayed vertical but you were bent over. It meant you didn't really need bar risers because you were over the bars with your arms out wide. But a more common position I see in videos (like this one) is more vertical... where the rider is upright and kinda deciding what peg to weight more to get the bike to gently lean and turn to track the trail. But standing that straight often means you need risers so it doesn't feel like the bars are right down at your waist. I'm still more in the "stay seated so you don't get tired: until you see something where you should get your butt off the seat" mode ;)
